Over 300 Runners/Walkers Registered to Participate at the Roosevelt Island 5K Run/Walk.
Organizers of the Roosevelt Island 5K Run/Walk benefiting The Icla da Silva Foundation are thrilled with the response towards the event so far. Over 300 runners/walkers will be participating on the event this Saturday, October 15, 2011 at 9:00AM. The event will take place on Roosevelt Island with start and end of the race at the Firefighter's field. This race is organized in conjuction with the NYCRuns.com
This fast and flat electronically timed 5K will be run on a USATF certified (pending) course and the start and finish are located near the F Train and Tram stations. The closed course is a nice loop around the perimeter of the island with breathtaking views of the East River and of course Manhattan and Queens. Afterward stick around for the post-race party and awards. It is anticipated that a Brazilian Samba School will be performing for the participants at the finishing line. This should be a really fun day. The run/walk is open to children and adults of all ages.
The mission of The Icla da Silva Foundation (www.icla.org) is to save lives by recruiting bone marrow donors and by providing support services to children and adults with leukemia and other diseases treatable by marrow transplants.

Raceday Directions: Take the F train or The Tram to Roosevelt Island (check MTA website for service interruptions). Pickup and baggage check is from 8-8:45AM and the race starts at 9. All prerace and postrace activities are on the Firefighters Field, a short walk from public transit, and just north of the start and south of the finish.
