Volunteers make a difference
We had very high expectations while organizing the bone marrow drive at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church on January 22nd and 23rd. Through the grace of God, we were not disappointed. St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church proved to be fertile grounds in every sense of the word and demonstrated that when we come together as a community, wonderful things can happen.
When we requested help to maximize our recruitment efforts, we were delighted with the support we received. Upon arrival at the church, we were welcomed by an outstanding group of Filipino nurses and many of our friends who were there to help us with our life saving mission. Our wonderful and dedicated group of volunteers not only helped with pre-labeling kits, revising consent forms, and moving tables and chairs, but they even provided transportation to those who could not drive.
As we shared experiences, laughed at the fascinating differences and similarities between our cultures, we realized that we all have one thing in common. The love for humanity, the desire to make a difference, and the need to make the world a better place indeed crosses all cultural barriers.
On behalf of the patients waiting for a bone marrow transplant, we express our deepest gratitude to every single volunteer that contributed to the success of this campaign.
“The world is hugged by the faithful arms of volunteers” ~Terri Guillemets
