(10/26/08) THE BRONX - A bone-marrow-donation drive was held Sunday in the Bronx to help one resident find a match and potentially save his life.
The Icla da Silva Foundation, an organization that helps children and adults with leukemia, sponsored the event, which was held on  Soundview Avenue to help 32-year-old Cesar Jimenez find a bone marrow match that could help him beat his cancer.

According to the foundation, both Latino and black communities receive few bone marrow donations, with Latinos making up only seven percent of donors. The foundation says this affects members of those communities negatively and leaves them searching for the help they need to survive. Jimenez is currently at Long Island Jewish Medical Center, where he hopes his community will come through and register to be bone marrow donors.
