Port Washington Fire Department Thanks Community for Participation in Bone Marrow Drive
Thank you to all who attended the Port Washington Fire Department’s bone marrow drive for Ex-Captain Phil Spinnato.
Once again our residents demonstrated what makes Port Washington a special place to live. We still are a small enough town to recognize a need within our own community and pull together. We had more than 200 people sign up for the bone marrow Registry Drive, conducted in cooperation with the Icla da Silva Foundation on November 13, 2010.
This drive not only was successful in actual people being registered and increasing the odds of finding a match, but potentially saving a life. It also served to educate many in our community about the process, which might result in even more registrations in the future.
Thanks to those who came out and went through the registration process. Also, thanks to everyone who helped spread the word through newspapers, the Internet, churches, temples, schools and the businesses that graciously allowed us to post our fliers in their windows.
The officers and members of the Port Washington Fire Department are deeply grateful for donating your time and joining the registry to help save a member of our family and possibly a member of yours.
