Join the Bone Marrow Registry Carnival of Love Foundation Drive at Holy Trinity April 27th
13 May 2010
The Carnival of Love Foundation will be sponsoring a bone marrow drive at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity on 74th Street, next Tuesday, April 27, from 5 -8pm.
Many individuals of Greek descent are battling terminal cancers, blood disorders, autoimmune conditions and other life-threatening diseases and desperately need to find a matching bone marrow donor. There are 8 million people in the Be The Match Registry® but fewer than 20,000 are of Mediterranean ancestry. More donors of Greek descent are urgently needed so that more lives can be saved.
Please view the attached flyer and consider joining the registry – you may be the one to save a life.
Today it is much easier to be a donor, as there have been major advancements in bone marrow transplant procedures. It’s not always necessary to go under anesthesia and have marrow extracted from your hip; there is a new method now called Peripheral blood cell (PBSC) donation where blood stem cells can easily be removed from your blood with minimal risk. It's most often an outpatient procedure. Mothers-to-be can also choose to donate the umbilical cord blood, that is otherwise discarded as medical waste, when their babies are born.
Please attend our donor drive being held in loving memory of Charles Spears Mallis whose need for a Greek bone marrow donor inspired the 3rd Annual Carnival of Love Fundraiser event held this past March and motivated our efforts to add persons of Mediterranean descent, especially of Greek ancestry, into the Be The Match Registry.®

The Carnival of Love Foundation
Innovation was a central component in ancient Greek thought. It was incorporated in every aspect of Greek life-- from the way they worshiped their gods, the way they built their buildings and the ideals they espoused in the societies they created.
NIC will gather global leaders, thinkers, and doers who share Greek heritage and make innovation an important part of what they do in their daily lives, at work and in their philanthropic and community endeavors.
Presenters will discuss various topics that are relevant to the global conversations going on today throughout the world-- philanthropy, technology, social issues, health and medical innovations, education and more. The presentations will be dynamic and interesting and many will incorporate the use of multimedia.
The daylong conference will include breakfast and lunch, as well as periodic breaks, which will allow for networking with the presenters, as well as amongst the registered guests, providing for a conducive environment for conversations to take place off stage, as well as on stage.
